suniya kavira haila lajja, bhaya, vismaya
hamsa-madhye baka yaiche kichu nahi kaya
SYNONYMS
suniya—hearing; kavira—of the poet; haila—there was; lajja—shame; bhaya—fear; vismaya—astonishment; hamsa-madhye—in a society of white swans; baka—a duck; yaiche—just as; kichu—anything; nahi—not; kaya—utters.
When the Bengali poet heard this chastisement from Svarupa Damodara Gosvami, he was ashamed, fearfuI and astonished.
Indeed, being like a duck in a society of white swans, he could not say anything.
