vastutah—in fact; prabhu—Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu; yabe—when; kaila—did; alingana—embracing; tanra sparse—by His touch; gandha haila—there was a fragrance; candanera sama—exactly like that of sandalwood pulp.
In fact, however, when Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu embraced the body of Sanatana Gosvami, by the Lord’s touch alone there was manifest a fragrance exactly like that of sandalwood pulp.
